With the release of PHP extension, Daffodil DB has joined the select list of Java enabled web databases.
PHP is a server-side and HTML-embedded scripting language that can be used to create dynamic web pages. PHP can be run as a separate program or compiled as a module to use with the Apache Web server. The distribution and documentation of PHP are available at the PHP Web site (http://www.php.net/).
PHP extension for Daffodil DB provides a simple but effective means for connecting to Daffodil DB server from or within PHP. With this PHP Extension, any application being built in PHP requires a database that can be effectively handled by Daffodil DB.
Although JDBC interface allows Daffodil DB to be accessed via web. The new PHP interface makes it a lot easier for users to exploit the advantages of a web based database. The new module allows users to build applications around PHP and Daffodil DB. It also enables an easy migration of existing PHP applications or solutions to Daffodil DB. Further, users can take advantage of the Daffodil DB unique feature set, scalability, performance, and ease of use in their PHP solution.
PHP extension has been tested both on Linux and Windows and is compatible with PHP 4.3.7 or above. The extension can be downloaded from PECL - PHP Extension and Community Library - (http://cvs.php.net/pecl/daffodildb) or (http://pecl.php.net/package/daffodildb).
