One$DB has been made available under LGPL (Lesser General Public License). The principle behind our licensing policy is simple-to offer greater value to users and developers associated with One$DB.
One$DB is an open source Java RDBMS available free-of-cost, irrespectiveof the environment (commercial or non-commercial) in which it is to be used. To make it easy for everyone to use One$DB, it has been released under GNU Lesser General Public License. The overall business benefit of LGPL licensing policy is that it provides maximum value to users / developers at truly zero cost.
The GNU Lesser General Public License (LGPL) grants you the following freedom:
The One$DB license policy provides flexibility to the users / developers to use One$DB in closed source applications that, in turn, can be distributed under a commercial license. The only restriction is that if one makes changes in the One$DB source code and thereafter distributes the same; he must make the mentioned changes available under either LGPL or GPL licenses. LGPL is different from GNU GPL that it does not require combined works to be licensed under its terms. It means that LGPL has no viral consequence.
Though, we do not force One$DB users/developers to release the source code modifications under LGPL or GPL but we recommend such submission is helpful in fostering healthy open source community.
